Tour vessel runs aground nearby Statue of Liberty; nothing injured

NEW YORK – A vast sailboat ran aground on a sandbar nearby a Statue of Liberty in New York on Saturday, triggering a depletion of all 121 tourists aboard though causing no injuries, authorities pronounced on Saturday.

The Clipper City, a 103-foot furloughed boat, got stranded during around 1 p.m., Petty Officer Frank Iannazzo-Simmons, a U.S. Coast Guard spokesman, said.

The U.S. Coast Guard and several internal agencies used tiny rescue boats to packet a passengers to safety, he said.

The condition of a boat was not immediately known, though an try was designed to get it afloat during high waves and consider a damage, Iannazzo-Simmons said.

The 9 organisation members remained with a ship, he said.
