NEW YORK Jan 8 (Reuters) – Massachusetts’ new Republican
Governor Charlie Baker will aim to cut state spending in order
to tighten a some-more than $500 million bill opening he inherited, he
said after being sworn into bureau on Thursday.

“If we’re honest with ourselves we can’t censure this deficit
on a miss of revenue,” Baker, 58, told lawmakers during his
inaugural address. “We have to commend that this is a spending
problem, and that traffic with it now will make balancing next
year’s bill that most easier.”

Former Democrat Governor Deval Patrick did not seek
re-election in 2014 after dual terms in office. He had already
begun to cut spending after a $329 million shortfall was
disclosed in Nov on a state’s $36.5 billion bill for
fiscal 2015, that ends on Jun 30.

In looking to make cuts, Baker pronounced he would not target
state assist to cities and towns, that Patrick had pronounced he would
reduce. But each other line object will be examined for possible
cuts, Baker said, while taxes would sojourn a same.

Baker struck a bi-partisan tinge in his address, vowing to
consider good ideas regardless of that side of a aisle
produces them.

He discussed a need to confront soporific obsession and high
healthcare costs, to reanimate civic areas, to urge state
services and to concede some-more licence schools in underperforming
districts.

“It’s wrong for any of us to mount on a front porch or in a
city area sympathizing with a mom or a father when they
tell us their child is not removing a preparation to attain in
life that they merit and afterwards conflict lifting a charter
school cap,” Baker said.

He also pronounced that unsound appetite smoothness systems are
prompting “unprecedented increases” in a appetite bills of New
England families and businesses, notwithstanding descending appetite prices
across a rest of a country.

He vowed to work with Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo, a
Democrat who took bureau on Tuesday, and others
