HAMPTON, Ga. — Kevin Harvick spent partial of Friday morning operative with JR Motorsports. He’s pushing an Xfinity Series automobile for a group this weekend, and for him it seemed business as common in a Chevrolet operative with an associate of Hendrick Motorsports.

He afterwards went to a Sprint Cup garage to his full-time float for Stewart-Haas Racing, also an associate of Hendrick Motorsports.

Stewart-Haas Racing to make burst to Ford in ’17

Stewart-Haas Racing, after Tony Stewart retires during a finish of a 2016 Sprint Cup season, will make a burst from Chevrolet to Ford starting in 2017.

  • Pockrass: Stewart-Haas couldn’t pass on Ford

Thinking business initial and faithfulness second, Tony Stewart opted to leave Chevrolet (and Hendrick Motorsports) for Ford, a pierce he believes he had to make, writes Bob Pockrass.

  • Ty Dillon calls it ‘an honor’ to expostulate for Stewart

Ty Dillon called it “an honor” to expostulate a No. 14 automobile during Atlanta for Tony Stewart, a three-time Sprint Cup champion in his final year of Cup racing.

  • If anyone knows how to hoop lame-duck situations, it’s Harvick. It leaked in Nov 2012 that he would leave Richard Childress Racing for Stewart-Haas Racing after a 2013 season. The fact that SHR has announced it would leave Chevrolet for Ford after 2016 didn’t seem to impact Harvick in his slight during Atlanta Motor Speedway, solely for reporters following him by a garage — even watchful outward a lavatory — to see either he was dissapoint over a pierce as a motorist who has driven a Chevrolet his whole Sprint Cup career.

Harvick pronounced final month that he and wife, DeLana, work in five-year plans. The subsequent five-year devise starts subsequent year and has him pushing all a approach by 2021.

Will that devise embody SHR, or does it change after a proclamation Wednesday?

“My concentration is a same as it has been given we started racing — it is to go out and win races and championships,” Harvick pronounced in a brief talk as he walked between a Xfinity and Sprint Cup garages. “You’ve only got to follow along with what your classification thinks is best. we consider they have a same seductiveness in mind that we do — and that is to contest for wins and championships.”

Harvick pronounced he would be ridiculous not to be committed to his group and organisation arch Rodney Childers. He won a Sprint Cup pretension in 2014. He finished second in 2015. He has led 4,431 laps with 8 wins, 19 second-place finishes and 38 top-5s in 73 races with Childers.

Most SHR contracts have seemed to be three-year deals with an option. If SHR picks adult a option, it would take Harvick by 2017.

Harvick, when asked either he should be deliberate a giveaway representative after this year, pronounced he is not.

“My contract? we haven’t even asked,” Harvick said. “I only insincere it was all hermetic adult and done. we assume so. … we consider there’s options and things in there.”

Working with JR Motorsports was no opposite Friday than in a past, he said.

“I’ve been in this position with RCR and changing jobs and won 4 or 5 races and done a Chase,” Harvick said. “Nothing different.”

When Harvick talked, he didn’t discuss a word “Ford.” He substantially can’t given he has a personal services understanding with Chevrolet. Although he has pitched Chevrolets for 16 years as a Sprint Cup driver, presumption he stays, he’ll have to representation something else.

Other drivers have done a switch though most problem. Carl Edwards had clever ties to Ford before relocating to Joe Gibbs Racing and apropos a Toyota motorist during a start of final year.

“I always felt unequivocally tighten to Ford,” Edwards said. “With a switch to Toyota, we saw a opposite approach of doing things. … Their impasse is different. I’m certain Chevrolet is opposite than that.”

The SHR pierce will impact Hendrick Motorsports with it losing a chassis-purchasing and engine-leasing business that SHR had with Hendrick. A four-car Sprint Cup engine package for engines and crew support — that expected tops $100,000 a competition per automobile — presumably ranges from $15-20 million.

“They are Chevy-powered, Hendrick powered engines and Hendrick framework right now,” Hendrick motorist Jimmie Johnson said. “We are going to continue to work tough and respect a contracts and give Rick [Hendrick] a time to figure out how to move in some some-more revenue.

“If it’s provision engines and framework for other teams, bringing in some-more sponsorship to keep all where it’s at, we’ve got some time to figure all that out, that is cool.”

In a past 5 seasons, SHR has won dual championships (2011 with Tony Stewart, 2014 with Harvick), while Hendrick has won one (2013 with Johnson). SHR will build a possess framework and get a engine from Ford retailer Roush Yates Engines when it creates a switch.

That means both SHR and Roush Yates will need some-more personnel. Hendrick hopes to keep a workforce it has.

“It’s positively not fun to be kick by your possess equipment, though during a same time it has helped motivate us in a lot of ways,” Johnson said. “We know that we have been removing outpace by a possess stuff.

“It’s helped us, maybe find a instruction in where to work a small easier. [The news] is still so new, and we still have this year to finish out, that we theory my mind hasn’t left there nonetheless and how it’s going to be different.”

Stewart, in a proclamation Wednesday, pronounced he expects some of a dynamics to change as distant as a team’s attribute with Hendrick. But he also believes SHR can stay a march with a clever run in Chevrolets this year.

“Our partnership with Ford doesn’t start until subsequent year and we’re vehement about it, though this year we’re still a Chevy group and we’re still committed to going out and doing all we can to win races and a championship for them,” Stewart said. “That’s what we do.”
